A driver attached to the MMC Security company was shot dead by a security guard attached to the same company during an argument on Saturday at the company’s Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara office.
Dead is 36-year-old Herbert Verwayne.
According to a police report on the incident, Verwayne and other security officials attached to the company were in the yard of the main office after completing their shift, when they were approached by a 24-year-old security guard attached to the same company, who accused the group, including Verwayne, of making ill statements about his daughter.
The men reportedly did not take him seriously but the security guard who was reporting for duty, armed himself with a shotgun from the company and discharged the weapon, shooting Verwayne dead and injuring at least one other security guard.
He was quickly disarmed and apprehended by other colleagues as Verwayne’s body was sprawled in the compound.
There are reports that the two men were well known to each other since it would be Verwayne who would transport security guards to their different locations.
There are reports that the two had a previous misunderstanding over a small financial loan and the security guard had accused Verwayne of not wanting to repay him.
Investigations are ongoing.
