President promises more tax incentives to encourage investment and business development across Region Seven

Outlining his party’s plan for the rich gold mining town of Bartica and the rest of Region Seven, President Irfaan Ali on Saturday said his party, the People’s Progressive Party, remains the only true party to represent all the people of Guyana.

At a rally in the town of Bartica, the President championed his Government’s lowering of some taxes and provision of incentives for miners as part of its commitment to the business and mining communities. He said a re-elected PPP Civic Government will do a whole lot more for the region.

President Ali told party supporters that the PPP is being embraced by the business community because of its track record on development and security of investment.

“They are not embracing us blindly, they are seeing the development and they have made the investment and they know which government and which party will secure their investment, which government and which party will protect their investment, which government and which party will create the opportunity for more investment, more jobs, higher paying jobs, lower taxes, more infrastructure, and a better Guyana, and that is the People’s Progressive Party Civic”, Ali declared to loud cheers.

Region Seven has been predominantly supportive of the People’s National Congress and the PNC-led APNU over the years. However, at the last local government elections in the main town of Bartica, the PPP Civic picked up more votes and control of the Bartica Town Council. The PPP is hoping that its improved showing at the Bartica Local Elections could be reflected in this year’s Regional and General Elections.

President Ali told the rally that his Government has been investing more in Region Seven with improved health facilities and connectivity to other communities.

“The next five years is not only about the jobs, mining, forestry, the roads, the infrastructure, treated water, better quality and more reliable electricity at lower prices, low prices for gas, but it is about the future for the young people. We have already made University education free, but we are going to create in Region Seven, like every other region, an education hub with all of the facilities like we will do in Region Six and other regions, like in Region Nine with the new hospitals to support our young people becoming pharmacists, doctors, trained teachers, engineers, technologists, computer science graduates, education graduates, nurses, all while they live in Region Seven, because we will bring the facilities to you”, he promised.

The President said his Government’s plan over the next five years would include the expansion of government services to all of the regions, as it pushes greater transformation and technological advancements.

President Ali also highlighted the importation of food into the region, and explained that he wants to see the development of a “food eco-system and agriculture eco-system” in the region, which would meet the food demands of the region and the wider mining community. He has also promised that a PPP Civic Government under his watch would also invest more in the riverain communities across the region and work more with community leaders for them to be part of his development action plan.

He accused the former APNU+AFC Government of taxing the region and the business community “down to your knees”, and has promised to provide tax incentives to encourage investment in the region that will encourage more investment in mining, tourism and entrepreneurship.

“We will help you and stand with you, so that you can build it, own it and profit from it. And we want ever single community to be part of this transformation”, the President said.

Encouraging Region Seven to go red and support his party, the President promised that he will keep his promises and his party will live up to its plans and programmes in the region as it pushes forward with the nation’s development.
