A former Accountant, who was in charge of Accounts Payable at a major telecommunications company, has been arrested and is facing questioning over the theft of more than $153.9 Million from the company.
Businessman and Accountant, Quincy Baird, was taken into Police custody on Tuesday and remains in custody, as the Criminal Investigations Department probes the multi-million dollar heist.
The Police in a statement today said the 37-year-old Quincy Baird is facing allegations of larceny by a clerk of servant. It is alleged that the theft took place over a number of years, dating back to July 2021.
The investigation was launched more than a year ago following an audit that uncovered an elaborate scheme that allegedly involved the transfer of millions of dollars to ghost accounts and through the mobile money platform.
Baird lost his job at the company following the audit, and a senior finance official of the company was forced to leave his job in the fallout over the alleged fraud.
The investigations are ongoing, the Police said. Baird remains in custody.
