US President Donald Trump has announced the capture of Venezuelan President, Nicholas Maduro and his wife, flying them out of Venezuela during a US military operation early on Saturday morning.

In a statement in his Truth Social Media page, President Trump said the US military action on Venezuela was successful.

“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country. This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement. Details to follow”, Trump said.

The operation was launched early on Saturday morning in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas with residents and multiple sources reporting heavy bombing and low flying military aircraft. The Venezuelan Government quickly declared a state of emergency as it announced that it was under attack from the United States. The Venezuelan Government also announced its right to defend itself against the attacks.

Video recordings show multiple targets in several parts of Venezuela being hit by the US military strikes. Buildings and facilities could be seen going up in flames.

The US had launched strikes against suspected drug carrying boats from Venezuela several weeks ago, while it accused Maduro of being directly linked to the drug cartel in his country. The US has also been pushing for Maduro’s ouster, accusing him of being the illegitimate President of the country.
