A post-mortem examination conducted on the body of a 14-year-old girl who died one month after giving birth, found that she suffered from heart failure and anemia, which have been listed as the cause of her death.

The Guyana Police Force reported today that the post mortem examination was conducted this morning on the remains of Aleena Preetam of the Essequibo Coast.

The young girl was found unresponsive in her room on Monday and rushed to the hospital, where Doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

Family members said she gave birth to a baby in January and the delivery was safe. It is unclear whether she had any complaints after the delivery and whether the pregnancy may have impacted her body.

The Guyana Police Force today said investigations into the girl’s death are ongoing. There are also reports that investigations surrounding her pregnancy at 13 are also being conducted. .
