An investigation has been launched by the Guyana Police Force and the Child Care and Protection Agency after an 11-year-old girl gave birth at the Georgetown Hospital.

The young child was rushed to the Hospital earlier this week and reportedly gave birth on Wednesday. Information about the incident made its way to social media, and the Ministry of Human Services said it immediately carried out an investigation through the Child Care and Protection Agency.

In a statement this morning, the Ministry said a thorough investigation was also conducted, and Police investigators were contacted.

The Guyana Police Force has since taken over the probe and has arrested a suspect in the impregnating of the young girl. The Director of Public Prosecutions is to advise on the charges.
