Police destroy $41M worth of marijuana during Berbice River operation

A drug eradication that was conducted by the Police in the Upper Berbice River area unearthed a number of large marijuana farms and led to the destruction of $41 Million worth of marijuana, according to a Police statement.

The Police said ranks from Police Division 10 carried out the operation on Monday, which lasted for more than nine hours. A total of three camps were discovered, the Police said.

At the first camp, a one-acre farm was found with about 200 marijuana plants measuring approximately three feet in height.

At the second camp, another farm was discovered. The two-acre farm was found with more than four hundred marijuana plants, ranging from six inches to eight inches in height.

The Police statement indicated that at the third camp, a drying area was seen with about 100 pounds of dried marijuana and a farm measuring about two acres with about four hundred plants ranging from one (1) inch to six (6) inches in height.

Additionally ranks also discovered nine live 12-gauge cartridges at the scene of the third farm.

The Police said all of the plants and the farms were completely destroyed by fire. There were no arrests, as all three camps were abandoned at the time of the operation.
