Child Care Agency carrying out full investigation of sex assault allegations against Minister Dharamlall -Human Services Minister announces

Declaring that “no one is above the law”, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud this morning announced that the Child Care and Protection Agency has launched an investigation into the serious sexual assault allegations that have been leveled against a Government Minister by a 16-year-old school girl.

In a post on her Facebook page, Minister Persaud said her Ministry has taken note of the serious allegations made against the Minister by the 16 year old girl.

She said “the Child Care and Protection Agency is carrying out a full investigation. All support will be provided to the young lady. Our women and girls must be safe and no one is above the law”.

Local Government Minister Nigel Dharamlall has made no statement about the serious allegations that have been made against him by the teenage high school student. News Source has repeatedly called the Minister’s known telephone numbers for a comment, but all of those calls went unanswered.

The school girl’s allegations of rape and sodomy against the Minister, were first contained in an open letter that she wrote to the President, which was published across social media.

The President in a statement to News Source on Friday, said while he did see the social media posts, he is not aware of any formal complaint being filed. He said a full investigation will be conducted by the relevant authorities once that investigation is carried out.

“I don’t condone or tolerate any behaviour like that and once any fact is established, anyone found guilty of any misconduct will be held accountable”, the President said.

News Source understands that there have been efforts to get the teen to recant her story. Dharamlall reportedly traveled to the teen’s community on Thursday to meet with her parents and speak to her directly.

The Chief Education Officer, Sadam Hussein, reportedly reached out to the teen also on behalf of the Education Minister, to set up a meeting between the teen and the Education Minister.

According to sources familiar with the telephone conversation between the two, the CEO expressed his disgust at the allegations and expressed the Education Ministry’s support for the girl.
