Soldier remanded to jail over shooting death of colleague at military base

Twenty-five-year-old Guyana Defence Force private, Brian Morrison, was on Friday charged for murder and remanded to jail over the shooting death of his colleague, GDF private Tevon Daymon at the GDF Timehri base.

Morrison appeared at the Diamond Magistrates’ Court and was not required to enter a plea to the indictable murder charge.

The Court was told that he shot and killed his fellow soldier, Tevon Daymon on the morning of the 12th June. Morrison was remanded until the 31st July when the matter will be called again.

Morrison is alleged to have opened fire at the military base with an AK-47 gun, shooting his fellow soldier over an argument and confrontation.

MURDERED: Private. Tevon Daymon

The two men were working night duties when it was reported that an argument broke out between them. In an earlier statement, the Police indicated that during that argument, Morrison was hit to the head by Daymon, resulting in a gashing wound.

In relation, he armed himself with the service weapon as Daymon ran away from him, and opened fire. Daymon was shot multiple times to the body and collapsed and died.

The shooting sent other ranks running for cover and left in a state of shock.

The GDF is conducting its own internal investigations of the murder, and the circumstances that led to it.
