The Central Housing and Planning Authority will be shifting its focus to sustainable housing this year, with increased attention on home ownership for the ordinary Guyanese, Minister of Housing, Collin Croal stated during the launch of the 2026 International Building Expo.
The Expo will run from June 25-28 this year.
During his remarks, the Minister said platforms such as the Building Expo have been assisting the Government to drive its housing programme, which saw his Ministry surpassing its targets in both the allocation of house lots and houses constructed by the Government.
Croal said the focus this year will be to build on that foundation created as the Government continues with its housing push.
‘Without a doubt, this initiative speaks directly, to the scale, pace and direction of Guyana’s growth particularly within the housing and construction sector. International building expo continues to do what few events have done here, it brings together developers, contractors, architect, financers, suppliers, innovators, technical experts and citizens in general each playing a role in shaping Guyana’s physical and economic landscape,” Mr. Croal said.
The Minister said as the country’s economic landscape is being shifted, the Expo will be the ideal platform to ensure that the needs of every stakeholder is being represented.

“The homes we construct, the communities we design and the infrastructure that we invest in, it will define not only our present but our future. It is against, this background that international building expo 2026 is being advanced under the theme: Guyana at 60, building strong foundations for a sustainable future. That theme reflects both how far we have come and the direction in which we are heading,” Mr. Croal said
Meanwhile, Minister within the Ministry Housing, Vanessa Benn, said the Expo has grown into a major national platform that connects citizens, investors and industry professionals while highlighting the scale and pace of the country’s development.
“So, this building expo, the international building expo with which we speak was conceptualized to showcase the transformative development of our country with emphasis placed on the rapid growth in our housing sector and the programme which is geared to meet the needs of our own fellow Guyanese while at the same time catering for all of the commercial sectors across our country’s development,” Minister Benn said.
She said the scope of the Ministry has widened over the years to include construction of road networks, which primarily service the new housing schemes that are being built by the Ministry and will now also include beautification of the city and communities.

“The progamme and projects of our ministry are particularly also aligned with main national thrusts, one of which is the urban development programme for Georgetown, which will see integrating in our work is an emphasis on beautification and revitalization and restoration of Georgetown and in other communities,” Minister Benn stated.
She said the building expo has grown into an international platform that not only showcases development but connects people to opportunities and support the entire construction ecosystem.
Hundreds of businesses usually participate in the Building Expo, linking homebuilders to suppliers and new customers.
