Two men who were wanted by the Police as part of its probe into the discovery of ten AK-47 weapons and ammunition almost two weeks ago, surrendered to the Police this morning in the company of their Attorney.
The two men who surrendered to the Police, Gregory Persaud and Antonio Alonzo Lawrie, have been taken into custody and are assisting with the investigations, Police sources have said.
The Police are still on the hunt for two other suspects in connection with the same investigation, while a fifth man was already charged over the discovery.
The discovery of the high powered weapons was made on the night of the 22nd May during a Police operation in the Corentyne area.
According to the Police, during its stop and search operation, the driver of a motor car sped away from the scene as he approached a group of Police ranks. He made good his escape, but the car and the driver were intercepted as they made their way to Georgetown from Berbice.
The Police said during its investigations in the Berbice area the same night, its ranks discovered the ten weapons wrapped up in plastic and cloth at the side of the roadway. It is suspected that the weapons were dumped from the same car that escaped the road block.
Investigators suspect that the weapons were smuggled into the country. The probe is ongoing.
