Chinese national, Zeng Huaqing, was further remanded to jail on Friday after he was charged with causing the death of 21-year-old motorcyclist, Christopher Thomas, by dangerous driving.

The incident took place on the 5th August.

The Chinese national was previously charged and remanded after investigations revealed he was operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license. It was also found that the motor van he was operating was also unlicensed and un-certified with no insurance.

Having previously been remanded on those charges, the Chinese national was slapped with the death by dangerous driving charge following the completion of the post-mortem examination on the body of the young motorcyclist who died.

The accident occurred as the motorcyclist was riding along the East Bank of Demerara in the Coverden area with a pillion rider and the motor van being operated by Huaqing slammed into him as it made a turn into a compound without stopping.

Both the motorcyclist and his pillion rider were pitched onto the roadway. The 21-year-old died was pronounced dead after being rushed to the Diamond Hospital, while his friend was admitted with multiple injuries.

News Source understands that since the accident, persons connected to the remanded driver have been reaching out to the families of the dead youth and the injured young man seeking a settlement in the matter.
