Truck driver on $1 Million bail for causing death of security guard by dangerous driving

The 26-year-old truck driver who slammed into a 63-year-old female security guard on Sunday morning, resulting in her death, has been charged for causing death by dangerous driving.

The accused, Charria Naitram of Supply, East Bank Demerara, appeared in Court this morning where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He is accused of driving the truck in a dangerous manner that resulted in the deadly accident that left the woman Patricia Hutson dead.

Magistrate Fabayo Azore granted the accused bail in the sum of $1 Million.

He was also charged for operating an unlicensed motor vehicle, operating an uninsured vehicle and having a vehicle that is also uncertified.

On those charges, he was granted bail in the sum of $25,000 each.

The incident took place on Sunday morning at the Ogle Public Road. A Police report indicated that the woman was standing at the side of the roadway waiting to cross, when she was hit down and crushed by the truck that had jumped a red light.

The driver reportedly told investigators that he could not get the truck to stop after noticing the light changing to red. He claimed that he changed lanes, which resulted in the speeding truck slamming into the woman who was on her way to work.
