$1 Million bail for man charged with causing death by dangerous driving

At the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court this morning, a 50-year-old man from Mocha Arcadia was charged for causing death by dangerous driving and granted bail in the sum of $1Million.

The accused, Cleveland Softleigh of Mocha Arcadia, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and calmly denied causing the death of 64-year-old, Ingrid James by his dangerous driving.

The Court heard that on the 29th July, 2017 along the Herstelling Public Road, the accused drove motor car with registration number PKK 3251 in a manner dangerous to the public, causing the death of the elderly woman.

The woman was crossing the road, when the accused slammed into her. The impact tossed the woman’s body several feet away.

The accused rushed the woman to the Diamond Hospital, but she was pronounced dead on arrival. The Attorney representing the man asked for reasonable bail. He may not have been prepared for the reasonable being $1 million.

The Magistrate asked that the accused returns to Court on December 5, for the case to continue.
