President Irfaan Ali has challenged local aviation players to come together and set up a regional airline carrier to tap into the Caribbean and wider market, boasting that Guyana is now an attractive destination for travel.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony of Jags Aviation Inc’s Dornier 228 aircraft, the President said Guyana must position itself to lead the way in regional aviation as he assured of his government’s support to back the expansion of the local aviation sector.
“I believe that our local aviation players should come together to look towards developing a regional carrier, because Guyana’s ambitions now seem limitless. We have to get our heads together and come up with a plan that is viable and sustainable, that is why the Ministry of aviation has been established,” the President said.
The President told the local aviation sector that it is time to transform. He commended Jags Aviation, which is now owned by businessman, Brian Tiwari, for adding two new aircraft to its fleet, noting that the continued investments in the sector shows not only confidence in the country’s economy, but the company’s willingness to align itself with the Government’s vision.

“Indeed, this commissioning ceremony is another chapter in the remarkable journey of growth of Jags aviation. Just last November, I had the privilege of turning the sod for the company’s new terminal facility in Bartica. Today, we are here once again to witness another significant investment. The message is unmistakable, BK is spreading its wings, JAGs aviation is taking flight. The company is climbing the higher altitude, expanding its reach, increasing its capacity and positioning itself for the opportunities that lie ahead,” the President noted.
According to the President, Guyana must not be a responsive aviation market but must be able to set its own standards and trajectory of aviation in the region.
“The profile of aviation in Guyana is changing, a new chapter is unfolding, more people are traveling throughout our hinterland than every before, visitors are arriving in increasing numbers, investors are exploring opportunities across our regions, tourists are seeking authentic experiences, but more importantly our policy agenda is to grant specific tax incentives for investments especially in our hinterland regions,” the President assured.

The President also challenged Indian Airline manufacturer, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), to set up a hub in Guyana to cater for Guyana, the Caribbean and other parts of the world, declaring that Guyana is ready to spearhead such major upgrades to its aviation footprint.
