A 24-year-old woman from the South Rupununi village of Karaudarnau has been arrested over the alleged murder of her four-year-old daughter, who was beaten to death.

A Police report said the incident occurred at around 1 o’clock this morning.

 The suspect, Lucinda Stephen and the child’s father were reportedly consuming alcohol on Wednesday night and the drinking spree continued into early this morning when an argument broke out between the two and the man left their home.

The suspect’s sister was informed of the argument and reportedly visited the home at around 3 o’clock this morning where he witnesses her sister beating the 4-year-old child to the head with a piece of wood.

The badly battered child was rushed to the Aishalton District Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The child’s mother was arrested and is presently in custody at Aishalton Police Station as investigations begin.  

The Police said the piece of wood that was used to beat the child to death was recovered at the crime scene.
