Parika woman beaten to death by husband while going to market

Police at Parika on the East Bank of Essequibo are probing the brutal murder of 25-year-old market vendor, Parbattie Amanda Persaud.

The woman was beaten to death this morning with a piece of wood by her reputed husband, who has since been arrested. The suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Guradean Lallaram.

A Police report of the incident stated that at around 5 o’clock this morning, the woman was walking to the market along the Parika Access Road when she was approached by the reputed husband.

An argument started between the two and the man reportedly armed himself with a piece of wood and started to beat the woman to the head and about her body.

Even after the woman fell to the roadway, the man stood over her and continued to beat her across the face and body. The entire incident was captured on a cellphone camera by a person who was nearby.

The Police said the man escaped from the scene and hid himself in a clump of bushes, but was tracked down and arrested by Police Officers who had been summoned to the scene.

The badly injured woman was rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where she died while in the Emergency Room.

The suspect has since been told of the pending murder charge, as he remains in custody.

The couple shared a 3-year-old daughter, and persons in the area reported to the Police that the man would constantly abuse the woman, but she always avoided reporting the abuse to the Police.
