A Charlestown family is praying and hoping for the full recovery of their six-year-old son, Jeremiah Gustave, who was shot to the head on Tuesday evening, while standing near to his mother’s food stand in Charlestown.
The shooting took place as a gunman opened fire near the stand at man in a suspected execution attempt. The intended target managed to escape from the scene, but as persons dashed for cover, the young boy was seen falling to the ground while bleeding from his head.
The gunman made good his escape, while the lad was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital by his mother. The young boy remains in a critical condition, and has not regained consciousness.
The incident took place at around 7:45 last night. The Police in a report said the still unidentified suspect was seen pulling up close to the food vendor’s stand, moments before opening fire behind a man who is known in the area as “Crab”, and hitting the 6-year-old instead.
The Police said two 9mm spent shells were discovered at the scene.
An eyewitness said the suspect is a man who is known in the community as “Mice Man”.
The Guyana Police Force said the investigations are ongoing.
