CANU Officers on $300,000 bail each on Diamond theft charges

The two officers of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit who were reportedly nabbed with Diamonds they allegedly stole from a Surinamese man, appeared in Court today and were charged with simple larceny.

The two ranks, Annick Hossanah and Jamine Goddard appeared in Court today and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Bail was set at $300,000 each and they will make their next Court appearance in the new month.

The CANU ranks were handed over to the Police by CANU itself, after the complaint was filed against them and one of them admitted to swallowing two of the diamonds, which he later excreted at a hospital.

The two ranks were reportedly part of a CANU operation in the Berbice area when they arrested the Surinamese national for illegal possession of a firearm.
