Two CANU ranks in Police custody over theft of diamonds

Two members of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit have been arrested by the Police over the theft of diamonds from a Surinamese resident who was held by them for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Police have identified the two CANU ranks as Annick Hossanah and Jamine Goddard. They were handed over to the Police by CANU after the theft of the diamonds was discovered.

The two ranks were reportedly part of a CANU operation in Berbice when they arrested a Surinamese national for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, and stole the diamonds that he had in his possession.

According to a Police statement, one of the CANU ranks swallowed two pieces of diamonds, but later excreted them after he was taken to a hospital. The other rank, reportedly admitted to Police investigators that he had already sold the pieces that he had stolen.

The two suspects are expected in Court in the new week.
