Essequibo Coast youth dies in early morning accident

A 19-year-old driver lost his life early this morning when he lost control of his car and slammed into a utility pole, resulting in the car bursting into flames.

The dead youth has been identified as Mario Adams of Lima Sands, Essequibo Coast. The accident occurred around 1:30 this morning.

In a statement, the Police said Adams, who was the owner of the car, was driving at a fast rate with three other occupants in the vehicle, when he lost control while negotiating a turn along the Bush Lot Public Road on the Essequibo Coast, and slammed into a utility pole.

The Police said the driver and other occupants of the car were pulled out by eyewitnesses and the car burst into flames moments later.

Two of the injured persons have been admitted to the hospital, while the third person reportedly ran away from the accident scene and is still to be located.

An investigation into the early morning crash has been launched.
