A 20-year-old Festival City man who was having a night out with friends died in an early morning accident along Homestretch Avenue. His friends have been hospitalized with serious injuries.
At least three of them are listed as being in a serious condition.
The dead young man has been identified as Dakera Gittens. He was one of five occupants in the motorcar when the speeding driver lost control and slammed into a power pole along Homestretch Avenue.
After slamming into the power pole, the car flipped over into a nearby trench. Emergency services responded promptly and with the assistance of passersby was able to get all of the occupants out of the vehicle.
Gittens was declared dead at the scene. His body bore multiple injuries.
The others were rushed to the hospital by the Emergency Services.
The accident occurred just before 1 o’clock this morning. A full Police investigation is underway.
