Homestretch Ave. accident claims 2nd life

An 18-year-old young woman from La Penitence has become the second victim of the early Sunday morning accident along Homestretch Avenue.

The young woman, Tonika Halley, passed away at the Georgetown Hospital this morning as Doctors lost their battle to save her life.

She was rushed there last evening with two others who are still hospitalised in a serious condition.

The first victim in the accident was 20-year-old Dakera Gittens who died on the spot when the driver of the car they were all in, lost control and slammed into an electrical pole before flipping into a trench.

The names of the other two injured youths have not been released, but they were all friends.

The dead man’s father told News Source that he last saw his son alive just before midnight as he left their Festival City home. He said less than an hour later he received news of the accident. When the man rushed to the scene, he was left heartbroken as he saw his son’s lifeless body at the side of the roadway.

It is suspected that the driver of the car was speeding at the time of the accident. The police investigation is ongoing.
