A 45-Year-Old, Da Silva Street resident appeared before a City Magistrate and was immediately remanded to prison he was charged for setting fire to the dwelling place of his wife.

The accused, Kerwin Jarvis stood before Magistrate Judy Latchman and denied the allegation, but he was remanded to prison until November 13th.

The Court heard that on the 17th October at Da Silva Street, Georgetown, he unlawfully set fire to the house owed by his wife.

The man told the Court that his wife told him that he will die slowly because of the food she gave him and went for medical attention.

But the Police Prosecutor objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offence. He further stated that on the day in question, Jarvis returned home around 8:30pm, proceeded to the bedroom and locked himself away.

He reportedly emerged from the room with several pieces of clothes and set fire to the clothes, while grabbing the wife and telling her that they would be dying together.

The woman managed to escape and the entire house was burnt to the ground.

Police were summoned to the scene and the suspect was arrested some days after the incident.
