A Bartica resident was today remanded to Prison after he was caught with over one pound of marijuana.

31-year-old Junior Stevens appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and entered a plea of not guilty, when the charge was read to him.

The charge stated that on June 11th at Fifth Street, Bartica, he was caught with 554 Grams of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

The Attorney representing the accused told the court that his client was at the beach, when police approached him and asked him about bag. In response, he told the police that he knew nothing of any bag.

The lawyer told the Court that the man was taken at gun point to a location, and then asked to open a bag but refused.

The Police Prosecutor objected to bail and the allegations made by the Attorney. Furthermore, the Prosecutor told the court that those are contrary to what happened on the day.

The Police Prosecutor stated that on the day in question, the police had the suspect under surveillance for some 20 minutes, when he was seen putting a bag at a nearby shop.

He was arrested and taken to where he left the bag and the illegal substance was discovered.

Bail was refused and the accused will make his next court appearance on June 27th.
