One day after turning himself over to US Authorities at the JFK Airport, drug trafficking accused and Guyanese business owner Ghalee Khan appeared in Court to face the charges related to his 2008 arrest.
Khan pleaded not guilty to the drug trafficking conspiracy charges. He is facing five charges in relation to the alleged drug trafficking offense. The charges are related to the pick-up and drop off of several pounds of cocaine in the New York area.
In addition, Khan is facing two additional charges for jumping bail.
He was first arrested and charged back in 2008 but left the United States while on bail and never returned until yesterday morning, 12 years later.
Bail was not granted during his appearance today and he will return to Court on the 1st April for the continuation of the matters.
Although Khan was a drug trafficking fugitive, he was able to establish businesses in Guyana including a security company that landed major contracts.
He also served as the Secretary for the Association of Private Security Companies in Guyana and as a member of the private sector, he was an observer for the 2nd March elections for the Private Sector Commission.
