An argument between two former friends in Linden this morning, ended tragically in a murder. The dead man has been identified as 28-year-old Keron McDonald of Block 22, Wismar. The suspect, who has since been arrested, has been identified as 28-year-old Jamal Cumberbatch aka “Brains”.
The two youths reportedly shared a friendship for several years, but that friendship ended after the now dead man had accused the other man of being involved in a relationship with the mother of his child.
According to reports out of Linden, at around 10 o’clock this morning, the two friends got into an argument that initially began at the home of the deceased and continued after they both left the area. The suspect had reportedly visited the home of the now dead man to complain to his mother about comments his former friend had reportedly made about his young son.
After the two men left the home separately in their own cars, they met up again in another area where the argument continued and quickly escalated into a fist fight. It is alleged that during that fight, the suspect ran to his car, retrieved a gun and fired a shot in the direction of McDonald, who immediately collapsed.
The suspect rushed to the injured man’s aid after shooting him. He reportedly picked him up and hurried him to the Linden Hospital in his car, leaving him in the emergency room. The injured man was pronounced dead by doctors. A single gunshot wound was noticed to the right side of his chest.
The 28-year-old suspect was arrested by the Police after he returned to the scene of the shooting. He remains in custody.
The police recovered a 9mm spent shell, but are still to recover the weapon.
