PME confirms cause of death of main suspect in murder of Attorney

The Guyana Police Force today reported that a post mortem examination conducted on the body of Police Sergeant, Tony Sulker, has confirmed that he died from poisoning.

Sulker was the main suspect in the murder of Attorney Richard Layne, who was found dead with a stab wound to the neck in his car last Wednesday night.

The Police Sergeant died on Friday night at the Georgetown Hospital after he was rushed there after collapsing at home. He was close friends with the murdered Attorney and lived at the Attorney’s home for more than four years, according to a statement he provided to the Police.

He was initially questioned about the Attorney’s murder, but was released by investigators within 24hours as they continued their probe.

However, by Friday morning, he emerged as the main suspect as investigators were able to view footage from a number of CCTV cameras across the city and saw him going into the Attorney’s car moments before the murder. He had told investigators that he was asleep in the house and woke up to use the washroom and noticed the Attorney’s parked car with him locked inside and slumped over the steering wheel.

The CCTV footage revealed he was in the car when it left the house moments before the murder, and when it returned to the house.

The mother of the murdered Attorney told investigators that she was leaving the house on Friday morning when the Police Sergeant drove into the yard in a reckless manner. He was later seen getting out of the car and collapsing at the door of the house. The murdered Attorney’s mother contacted emergency services and the main suspect in her own son’s murder was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

Family members appear unaware of a possible motive for the murder of the Attorney. With the main suspect now dead, they may never know the true motive.
