Police investigating bloody chopping incident that left two brothers dead

The Guyana Police Force is investigating the deaths of two brothers from Parika on the East Bank of Essequibo in a cutlass chopping incident.

The two dead brothers have been as identified 17-year-old Marvin Joseph and 30-year-old Ellis Joseph.

In a statement, the Police explained a confusing series of events that resulted in the deaths.

The Police report stated that at around 3pm on Wednesday, the Joseph brothers were both armed with cutlasses when they chased after and attacked 25-year-old Ryan Fredericks.

While it is unclear what triggered the attack by the two brothers, the Police report stated that while under attack, the 25-year-old man, Ryan Fredericks, attempted to escape from the brothers by jumping through the window of a house. The brothers pursued the man and kept swinging at him and in the process started to chop each other.

All three men, the brothers who were carrying out the cutlass attack and the man who was under attack, collapsed at the scene with multiple chop wounds. The three were rushed to the nearby Leonora Hospital, where doctors pronounced the brothers, Marvin and Ellis Joseph dead, while the other man, Ryan Fredericks was admitted in a serious condition with multiple chop wounds to his body.

The Police said the dead brothers were noticed with chop wounds to their abdomen.

The Guyana Police Force said it is treating the matter as a double murder.
