Two men have been arrested following the discovery of an illegal handgun and a live round today by the Police in the Charlestown area.
The Guyana Police Force said that around 11:30 this midday, Ranks on a mobile patrol observed the suspicious movement of Motor car PWW149, driven by a “known character”, with a male seated in the back.
According to the Police, as the patrol approached the vehicle in the vicinity of Russell and Howes streets, the ranks signaled the driver to stop, but instead, the man accelerated and crashed into a post, on Link Street, Charlestown.
The occupants were ordered to exit the vehicle and during that process, the driver dropped a firearm which was immediately retrieved and found to be a .38 Smith and Wesson Revolver with a live round in its chambers.
The 38-year-old driver of West Ruimveldt and his 20-year-old unemployed passenger of Campbellville Housing Scheme are in custody. The vehicle has also been lodged in Police care.
