Police investigators in Berbice have arrested a suspect in connection with the early morning robbery and murder of 59-year-old businessman Akbhar Sain of Corentyne, Berbice.
In a statement, the Guyana Police said the robbery and murder of the businessman occurred at his Williamsburg, Corentyne home where he operates a supermarket on the lower flat.
The Police said Police Ranks responded to reports of a break-and-enter-and-larceny at the supermarket at around 2:30 this morning.
On arrival, the Police Ranks observed that the grill to the southern side of the businessman’s home was broken, and the businessman who lived alone, was seen lying motionless on the supermarket’s floor.
The cashier area of the supermarket was also ransacked.
Police said the businessman’s licensed firearm was seen close to his body.
The suspect, who has since been identified as Satesh Ramnaresh, was caught hiding out in the businessman’s house, which is located above the supermarket.
A search was conducted on the suspect and a quantity of money was found stashed in his crotch.
The Police said the man confessed to robbery and murder and admitted to beating the businessman.
The businessman died from his injuries.
Police investigations are ongoing.
