Two charged over attempted ATM fraud

Two men who were arrested over the weekend after allegedly making attempts to withdraw money from an Automated Teller Machine at two locations, have been charged and remanded to jail for attempted ATM fraud.

26-year-old Tulsie Ramprashad and 37-year-old Bhojnarine Gopaul before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The Court was told that the pair along with a woman, were followed by Police investigators to two locations for Citizens Bank ATMs and were spotted attempting to get money out of the ATM using blank ATM cards and a US debit card.

They were arrested and questioned by investigating ranks, and a decision was made to charge the two men. The Court was also told that one of the accused, is currently before the Court on a similar charge in relation to another incident.

The Prosecutor also informed the Court that the investigation remains active, as another suspect who is believed to be the mastermind of the operation, remains at large.

The incident has forced Citizens Bank to upgrade all of its ATMs and encourage its customers to get their Citizens Bank ATM cards changed.

The bank has offered no statement on the incident.
