Venezuelans nabbed in Region One with guns, drugs and multiple cellphones

Guyana Police ranks in North West District, Region One have arrested three Venezuelan nationals on Friday after they were found with 3 unlicensed firearms and ammunition along with cocaine and marijuana.

A Police report said officers based at the Arakaka Police Outpost received information about the Venezuelan men visiting a shop in the area to charge their phones with firearms in their waistbands.

According to the Police, the three were picked up by a man in the area known as Reny Melville and taken to his home at the Arakaka Waterfront.

In response, uniformed Police ranks from Arakaka Police Outpost proceeded to Melville’s home.

At the home, the Police requested to search the residence and Melville agreed. The men were spotted lying on the floor and communicating among themselves in spanish.

The Police said while the Ranks were conducting their searches, they observed a haversack with a Glock 19 pistol and six matching rounds, along with two Beretta 92-A1 pistols with magazines.

The Venezuelan men who were identified as Eliyer Vera Venez, Romel Masim, and Jiminez Rojas were informed of the offences committed, but remained silent.

The Police said further searches were conducted on a wooden table near the bed, where a bulky black plastic bag was found in the presence of Melville and the three suspected Venezuelan nationals. The bag was opened, and a quantity of a suspected cocaine and a quantity of marijuana leaves, seeds, and stems were found.

The Police said the man identified as Reny Melville managed to escape the scene while the searches were being carried out. However, the three Venezuelan nationals were arrested and escorted to the Arakaka Police Outpost.

The three remain in custody pending further investigation and charges. The Police said Ranks in the area are currently looking for Reny Melville.
