Youth sentenced to community service and counseling for assaulting stepfather during drunken rage

According to the case report, the youth was under the influence of alcohol, when he armed himself with an iron pipe and dealt his stepfather several lashes about his body. He also set fire to his mother's clothing and left the house. He was later arrested.

Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan today exercised some level leniency, as she ordered an unemployed youth to have counseling for one year, while also sentencing him to six months of community service.

The young man made his first appearance in Court today and faced charges of unlawfully wounding his Stepfather, escaping lawful custody and causing damage to his mother property.

18-year-old, Carlos Rodriguez, of North West District, stood before the Chief Magistrate, Ann Mclennan and admitted to all of the allegations leveled against him.

The Court was told that on the 6th October at Moruca North West District, the youth escaped lawful custody while charges were being made out against him for the wounding matter.

It was on the same day in question, that he damage the property of his mother, Sonia Abraham, while unlawfully wounding his stepfather, Martin Abraham.

He apologised in the Court today and admitted that his actions were done while he was under the influence of Alcohol. He begged for a second chance and promised to turn his life around and “stay away from bad company.

The Magistrate handed down the minimum punishment.
