The brutal and senseless murder of a 7-year-old boy and the stabbing of his 72-year-old great grandmother at Zeelugt on the East Bank of Essequibo have left the community and the rest of the country in shock.
The young boy, Adriel Mohamed and his grandmother, who is disabled as a result of suffering a stroke, were home alone when they were attacked just before 5 o’clock this morning by a suspected intruder. The boy lived with his father, who was out of town, and the great grandmother, according to relatives.
It was a relative who visited the home early this morning that discovered the bloody scene. The child’s motionless body was found with slash wounds to the neck, while the ailing great grandmother was discovered with stab wounds to her neck.
She was rushed to the Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.
Police investigators have reported that they have since found a knife that is suspected to have been used in the attack at the scene. The weapon is being processed for fingerprints and other possible evidence.
Family members are stumped by the attack and believe that the young boy might have recognised the suspected intruders, which led to their brutal attack on him.

According to family members, the young boy would assist in the care of his great grandmother at nights when his father was away.
The dead boy’s father, Altab Mohamed, said the murder of his son has left him numb and in disbelief. He said he regrets not being there to protect his son and the great grandmother.
“Me whole skin numb, I miss me son and I sorry I wasn’t here to protect me son and the reason me son was here alone is because I had to get money you understand. I took him away from his mother, because I don’t want him to grow with stepfather, so i does work and take care of my youth man, and I just left he to go and catch this hussle”, the grieving father said.

Other relatives said they have no clue what may have triggered the deadly attack as they are a poor family.
The young boy’s mother was visited by other family members and friends and was inconsolable.
The Police said CCTV cameras were observed in the area and the footage from those cameras are being reviewed with the hope of identifying the suspect.
In a statement this afternoon, Minister of Home Affairs, Oneidge Walrond in expressing her shock over the attack and murder said she has been briefed on the investigations and is assuring that the Police and other security agencies will be using all necessary resources to identify and track down the suspect.
