177 New COVID-19 cases recorded in 24hrs

For the third day this week, Guyana recorded more than 100 new cases of Coronavirus within a 24-hour period.

The Ministry of Health reported this afternoon that 177 new cases of the virus were recorded in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of active cases in the country to more than 1700.

Another death was also recorded overnight, taking the total number of deaths to 296.

Despite this month of April recording the highest number of new infections and the highest number of deaths, the Government has not changed any of the public health guidelines to safeguard citizens against the virus.

The curfew will remain 10:30 pm to 4am for the next month while bars and restaurants can continue to be opened up until 9pm daily.

The Health Ministry is calling for more responsibility and continues to push its vaccination drive.

More than 130,000 persons have received a first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
