The COVID-19 death toll in Guyana reached 601 today as the Ministry of Health recorded four more deaths. Three of the deaths occurred on Sunday while the fourth person passed away last Friday.
Based on figures released by the Ministry of Health, a total of 55 deaths have been recorded since the start of August. The figures released by the Health Ministry also revealed that more than 1900 new cases have been recorded since the start of this month.
A total of 134 cases were recorded in the past 24 hours with Regions 3 and 4 recording the highest number of new cases.
There are currently 1421 active cases of the virus in the country.
Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony today said he believes that the Delta variant of the virus is currently in Guyana.
The Ministry is still to confirm the presence of the variant and it’s unclear whether any samples have been sent abroad for testing for the variant.
Almost 16,000 new cases of the COVID-19 have been recorded in Guyana over the past 6 months.
