Three Coronavirus related deaths were recorded on Sunday taking the total number of deaths from the virus in Guyana to 146.

The three latest fatalities were recorded in Regions 6, 7 and 10.

A 29-year-old man from Region Seven is among the three latest victims. Details about his death have not been released. The other two victims were 88-years-old and 89-years-old.

A total of 40 new cases of the disease were recorded as of midnight Saturday. There were 88 new cases the day before.

The total number of active cases in the country has climbed to 964 with 886 of those positive cases in home isolation. The other 78 are in institutional care.

The Ministry of Health is warning citizens against social gatherings as the holiday season approaches. Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony has called on citizens to stay home and away from social gatherings during the holiday season, as there is a fear that the numbers could climb even more.

Guyana has recorded more than 5000 coronavirus cases since the first case was recorded back in March.
