A 34-year-old woman from Roxanne Burnham Gardens in Georgetown, lost her life early this morning in an accident in Corentyne, Berbice. The dead woman has been identified as Melena Stephen.
In a statement, the Guyana Police Force said Stephen was driving her motor car along the #43 village public road at around 4 o’ clock this morning when she lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a bridge. The Police said the vehicle was being driven at a fast rate at the time.
Four other occupants of the car, including a young child, were all seriously injured.
The Police report said the impact of the accident, left the driver pinned in the vehicle. She was eventually removed from the vehicle in an unconscious state and rushed to the Skeldon Hospital. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. A post mortem examination is to be carried out in the coming days.
Three of the survivors remain hospitalised with multiple injuries.
