The Guyana Police Force has announced the death of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Dexter Brown following a fatal incident which occurred at around 1:20 this morning along the Montrose Public Road.
Brown was driving a motorcar owned by an East Coast Demerara businesswoman, when it is reported that he lost control of the vehicle while driving at a fast rate, crashing into a concrete bridge.
The Police report said the car flipped and ended up in a trench on the side of the road and was left submerged.
“With the help of public-spirited citizens, the police were able to take Brown out of the submerged car. He was in an unconscious state”, the report indicated.
The man was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was examined by a doctor and pronounced dead.
The vehicle has since been removed and taken to the Sparendaam Police Station to be examined by a licensing and certifying officer. A post-mortem examination is to be carried out on the body.
In October 2021, the Policeman was charged and remanded to prison after he was busted with more than 20 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of his car.
The Police at the time reported that the Policeman had eluded a roadblock in West Berbice, but was later nabbed at another roadblock in Mahaica.
The status of that case is unknown. In response to a question on when did Mr. Brown resume active duties in the Force, the Police Force would only state that the question has been acknowledged.
