Police investigators have traveled to the East Coast Demerara village of Unity in Mahaica to probe the murder of a 38-year-old woman.

The lifeless body of Chooromanie Tulsie was found this morning in the lower flat of her two-storey house.

The body was found on the floor with a cloth stuffed in the woman’s mouth and stab wounds to her neck. The suspected murder weapon has been recovered.

The woman was last seen alive on Tuesday. Investigators suspect that she was murdered sometime between 7:30 last night and early this morning.

Persons in the area did not report hearing any unusual sounds coming from the house. While no suspect has been identified, investigators believe that the suspect might be someone who was known to the woman.

A number of persons in the area have since provided statements to the Police. A post-mortem examination is to be conducted on the woman’s body later this week.
