69 New COVID-19 cases and two more deaths recorded

A 54-year-old man from Region Four and a 74-year-old woman from Moblissa on the Linden Soesdyke Highway also became the country's latest coronavirus related deaths, taking the death toll to 132.

69 New COVID-19 cases and two more deaths recorded

For the second straight day, more than 50 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Guyana. The Ministry of Health today reported that there were 69 new cases of the disease in the country as 11 persons remained in the Coronavirus Intensive Care Unit.

A 54-year-old man from Region Four and a 74-year-old woman from Moblissa on the Linden Soesdyke Highway also became the country’s latest coronavirus related deaths, taking the death toll to 132.

News Source understands that the man was hospitalized with another ailment but was tested positive for coronavirus after he exhibited signs of the virus. He passed away in the COVID-ICU. The woman passed away at the Wismar Hospital in Linden. Other members of her family have also tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, of the 69 new cases, 52 are from Region Four.

Region Four, which is home to the nation’s capital continues to see the largest increase in coronavirus cases in the country. Almost half of the more than 4000 coronavirus cases that have been recorded in Guyana are from Region Four.

Despite an announced plan for increased enforcement, the Region continues to see the most flouting of the coronavirus health regulations with some bars, nightclubs and drinking spots opened into the nights and early mornings despite the curfew and restrictions.
