9-month-old baby found abandoned in front of Baramita Police Station

The Guyana Police Force reported this afternoon that an infant boy who was found lying at the entrance of the Baramita Police Station in Region One, just before sunrise today, is currently in the care of the Medical Staff of the Baramita Health Centre.

In a statement, the Police said the child who was naked, was found wrapped in a blanket, by Constable Kevin Morgan when he opened the Station’s door this morning.

The Policeman immediately took the child into his arms and held onto him before giving him a warm bath.

The Subordinate Officer-in-Charge of the Station, Corporal 15421 Jennifer Griffith and other ranks  pooled their money and purchased clothing and pampers for the baby before taking him to the health centre in the area for a medical examination.

An investigation was immediately launched.

Just after 1 o’ clock this afternoon,  a 23-year-old woman showed up at the Station claiming that the child belongs to her.

She claims that she was under the influence of alcohol last evening when she left the child in the care of someone.  She said because of her intoxication, she cannot remember the person.

She is now in Police custody as the child remains in the care of the health centre.
