Agriculture Ministry launches “Farmers Connect GY” App with real time data and services

The Ministry of Agriculture today launched Farmers Connect GY – a mobile app designed to empower farmers, fisherfolk, and agro-processors across the country by providing them with access to agricultural services and real time data with just a click from the palm of their hands.

The mobile application forms part of the Agriculture Ministry’s push towards digitization, and will provide real time data to farmers such as access to live weather updates, soil maps and market prices.

In his address at the launch of the app at the National Cultural Centre, Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha said the app represents the future of Agriculture Sector.

“Today we are taking a decisive step to ensure that our Agriculture Sector keeps pace with the rapidly changing and modernized world. The official launch of the Farmers Connect app marks a defining moment in Guyana Agricultural transformation,” Minister Mustapha said.

He said the launch of the app also represents a realization of a long held vision of President Irfaan Ali to fully modernize the Agriculture Sector through digital innovation – moving from traditional practices to an integrated precision driven and future ready system of production, planning and market engagement.

“The president has consistently emphasized that digital platforms are not convenience but a strategic infrastructure. They are essential to competitiveness, food security, efficiency and national advancement under the broader digital Guyana agenda,” the Agriculture Minister said.

Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dhaneshwar Deonarine, said the app will improve efficiency in the delivery of Agriculture Services in the country.

“The Farmers Connect GY app brings the knowledge and support of the Ministry of Agriculture to each farmer with an internet connection. It is our hope that all farmers in Guyana will use this app. Farmers – the Famers Connect GY app would allow you to do among other things, have quick, efficient and direct access to our extension officers for advice on best practices, pest management and crop health, access to an integrated AI medium which could give you immediate response to your issues,” Deonarine explained.

He said the app will also help farmers to make more informed decisions.

Currently, the app could be accessed on the Google Playstore for android devices, and will soon be available in the Apple AppStore.
