Ambassador George to serve as Guyana’s new High Commissioner to Canada

Career Guyanese diplomat, Ambassador Keith George has been appointed by the Government to serve as Guyana’s new High Commissioner to Canada.

Ambassador George last served as Guyana’s Ambassador to neighbouring Suriname. He served in that position for ten years and is currently wrapping up his tour of duty.

He has been with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the past 30 years and worked in the Technical Cooperation and Political Departments of the Ministry before taking up his posting in Suriname.

He served as Director of the Frontier Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was instrumental in the efforts at protecting the territorial integrity of Guyana and ensuring that the obligations with respect to the maritime space over which Guyana exercises jurisdiction under International Law were met.

The new High Commissioner to Canada is expected to take up his new diplomatic posting in the coming months. Guyana has been without a High Commissioner to Canada for over two years.
