Former General Secretary and political stalwart, Amna Ally has tendered her resignation from the People’s National Congress Reform, citing continuous disregard for women as the reason for her resignation.
In her resignation to PNC Reform Leader, Aubrey Norton, Ally also said Norton and his entire Executive should hang their heads in shame and also resign from the party.
Ally’s resignation follows the resignation of longtime party member, Vanessa Kissoon last Tuesday.
In penning her resignation letter, Ms. Ally highlighted a recent “curse out” of party members, Vanessa Kissoon, Sharma Solomon and fellow party stalwart, Cheryl Sampson at an event that took place in party headquarters.
She said the “shameful act” was meted out to the three senior party members by persons in the party closely associated with the current leader, and it took place in the presence of the current General Secretary of the party.
“This disgraceful conduct of women and men closely associated with Party Leader Aubrey Norton, among whom was also a sitting member of Parliament, brought shame and disgrace to the Party. Notably all this lewd behavior was taking place without rebuke amidst an organized forum for the National Congress of Women intent on improving the quality-of-service women give to our Party. It is clear that the purpose of this thug like behavior was to disturb and break up the forum”, she wrote.
She said the incident was not missed by many senior women functionaries who publicly and privately expressed disgust at the level to which the Party has sunk under Norton’s leadership.

Ally said while it hurts, she cannot continue to support the PNC under the current leadership of Aubrey Norton and his entire executive, who she lamented should all resign from the party.
“I wish to reiterate I cannot support a party which disrespect the role played by women who have always been the backbone of the PNCR, and call upon Aubrey Norton and the clique that surround him in the central executive to resign and save the party”, Ally said.
She accused the group of supporters who surround the current leader of operating as though they own the party. She also called on all right-thinking women of the PNCR to stand up against what she described as “this new tyrant” in the PNC, adding that leadership must be given by leaders and not “rascals, bullies, embezzlers and indiscipline persons”.
Ally served the PNC Reform for 54 years. In the last party congress and elections, she campaigned against the re-election of Aubrey Norton for the position of party leader, indicating that he was unfit for the position. Norton was re-elected to the position, and Ally’s non-support of him received a rebuke from party Chairman, Shurwayne Holder.
Over the past few years, Ally had scaled back her presence in the party.
