An armed bandit was nabbed by Police moments after he committed a robbery on the East Coast of Demerara on Sunday night.

The Guyana Police Force reported on Monday that swift action by its ranks resulted in the apprehension of the suspect who was still in possession of the firearm and most of the articles that he carted off during the robbery.

According to the Police, it was just after 11 o’ clock on Sunday night, while relaxing under a benab in Mahaicony, that a couple found themselves being robbed by the lone bandit, who carted off all of their valuables.

Shortly afterward, the victims ventured to the nearby Mahaicony Police Station and reported the matter.

“Based on intelligence gathered, police went to Recess Public Road, Mahaicony, where the suspect, who was later, positively identified, was arrested with the stolen items, minus the cash along with an unlicensed 9MM Glock Pistol and nine (9) live matching rounds”, the Police said. 

The thirty-year old unemployed Mahaicony suspect, is being processed for court. A ballistic test is being conducted on the firearm to determine if it was used in the commission of any other crime.
