Babysitter being questioned following death of young baby with head injuries

Police investigators have detained a 28-year-old woman following the hospitalization and eventual death of a 1-year-old child who was in her care.

The woman who is a relative of the child’s father is said to be cooperating with the investigators.

The Police were called in after the child was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital from the Babysitter’s Soesdyke Linden highway home, suffering from seizures.

The name of the dead child has been given as Raheem Fung.

The Police said the woman acted as a baby sitter for the child’s parents and cared for the child six days per week between July and mid-September.

According to the Police report, back in August, the babysitter contacted the mother of the child to inform her that the child had fallen and knocked his head.

The mother got the child and rushed him to the hospital, where he was checked and eventually released as there was no issue found.

However, last Friday, the babysitter contacted the mother again to inform her that the child was suffering from seizures. The child was taken to the Georgetown Hospital in a critical state where doctors were forced to put him on a life support machine.

The babysitter was detained for questioning after the Police said the child had suffered from multiple head injuries.

The young child eventually passed away, resulting in a widening of the investigations. However, the Police Force has stated that the matter is not being treated as a murder probe at this time.
