Benn and others take up management functions at Public Service Credit Union as ordered by Court

Following the decision of the High Court Judge, ordering the removal of the Chairman of the Guyana Public Service Co-operative Credit Union Karen Vanslutyman-Corbin, the Secretary Gillian Pollard and Board Member Ruth Howard from their positions, former Chairman Trevor Benn, Vice Chair, Patrick Mentore and Treasurer Rajdai Jaggdernauth have moved in and taken over the leadership of the Credit Union as ordered by the Court.

Today, the three members and their lawyer, Senior Counsel Roysdale Forde, met with the Chief Executive Officer of the Credit Union, Adeola Griffith to formally inform her of the Court’s decision.

In brief comments Mr. Forde told the CEO that he believes that it was the duty of his clients to inform her specifically of the Court order so that she can facilitate, cooperate and exercise specific functions as directed by the new management team going forward.

The CEO has agreed to facilitate the transition.

“As the CEO, it is my duty and responsibility to uphold my office and if that is working with a Committee of Management, Members of the Committee of Management, that is my duty. So, yea I am here to serve and work with the Committee of Management, whoever comprises the Committee of Management,” Griffith said.

Although it is not yet clear who will take over the Chairmanship of the 59-year-old institution, Mr. Benn told the CEO that now that it is clear that the Management team included himself, Mr. Mentore and Ms. Jaggernauth, her first priority under the new leadership must be to prepare for a Special General Meeting to elect a new leadership for the Credit Union.

“The earlier decision of the court in relation to the holding of a Special General Meeting be the priority of the Credit Union. So that is what we will be focusing on going forward and the business of the Credit Union will not be stopped but our main focus will be to hold that Special General meeting in keeping with the members wishes,” Mr. Benn urged the CEO.

Further, Mr. Benn urged that all executive functions previously performed by Mrs. Corbin, Howard and Pollard be immediately ceased until the Judge says otherwise.

He also urged the CEO to conduct an audit of the credit union’s finances, so that the new management could be aware of the financial situation at the credit union.
