Former Chairman of the Guyana Public Service Co-operative Credit Union, Trevor Benn, who was ousted by his own Management Committee almost two years ago, is set to return to his position with a new Management Committee, after his slate swept the Credit Union elections on Saturday.
Benn, who has been credited by members for turning the institution around was elected with the most votes at the elections.
Of the just over 1,900 votes cast, Benn received 1,816. Following him with 1,636 votes was current Vice Chairman of the Credit Union, Patrick Mentore, who is also set to retain his position on the Board of Directors.
Current Treasurer of the Credit Union, Rajdai Jagarnauth, Former Finance Manager of the Credit Union Judah Louisy and Management Secretary who all ran on Benn’s slate were also re-elected to the Management Committee
The other elected committee members include, Vanessa Kissoon, Mahalai Mc Almont, John Anderson, Eslyn Harris, Kirk Fraser, Candance Nelson, and Beverly De John.
Before the elections on Saturday, there was a Special Meeting in keeping with the order of the High Court.
During that meeting, a motion to recall the current Committee of Management, a motion to prohibit nine of the ousted members of the Management Committee from holding office again and a motion to elect a new Management Committee were all passed.
The meeting and elections brought an end to a two-year long battle between two factions on the Credit Union Management Committee. With the results, the other faction is claiming that the elections were not legally held.

Karen Vansluytman-Corbin, who is the outgoing Chairperson of the Credit Union, voiced some concerns about the special meeting and elections.
She contended that the meeting did not reach a quorum. But Mr. Benn told News Source that the concerns by Ms. Corbin and her team were frivolous. He explained that in planning the special meeting, a request was made for the Credit Union to provide a list of members of the Credit Union and that request was denied, therefore Ms. Corbin could not argue that a quorum had not been met. He said from the feedback from the Chairperson, there was indeed a quorum at the time of the meeting.
Benn explained further, that you cannot base the number of persons present in one region as the total number of persons who attended the meeting. He said polling places were set up in all ten regions and members were present at those polling places as well.
Benn and his team are set to take up Management of the public servants financial institution this week.
